Council present: Councilmember Bayko, Councilmember
Cardiff, Councilmember Corrales, Councilmember Perovich, Councilmember Shoub.
Council
not present:
Councilmember Batzel, Councilmember Cole.
Other staff
present: Mayor Llewellyn, Borough Manager Peticca, Borough Secretary Mulnix.
The borough
will be scheduling clean up days tentatively for May 5th & 6th.
Alongside the clean-up days there will be brick disposal for the Memorial
bricks that have been kept at the public works building.
The question
was asked how to reach for more volunteers and community involvement.
Comcast Cares
offers a volunteer base for their employees, to keep it town related volunteerism
could be extended to high school students and boy scouts, and a reach out to
the Business Association. Clean up days will end with a cook-out or pizza party
as a thank you for everyone’s involvement.
As part
of the discussion it was mentioned to have branches cleaned up at Memorial
Park, and coordinate various clean ups of gardening areas throughout the
borough, and extend that clean up to groups such as the boy/girl scouts troops
in need of volunteer hours for projects, volunteers, or any interested parties.
The
suggested location to have the movies in the park is Westmoreland Park, it’s a very welcoming location with the playground
across the road and traffic traveling by. The borough would be looking for sponsorship
from local businesses to start the idea, and then continue some fundraising, such
as selling popcorn onsite.
TECDC
along side the business community and the recreation board and chairman of the
rec committee.
The proposed movie idea is
to try one Friday night a month June-August as a trial run for public interest.
The audience would appeal to younger families showing G/PG rated movies. There
was an expressed interest in volunteerism from a resident (Jeff Contillo) at the
meeting. There were a few suggestions to invite vendor trucks or provide
concession items to purchase during the movie ex: Konana Ice as other
organizations have had good experiences with that in the past. June 10th
or June 23rd are the proposed dates. The borough
will price projectors and additional costs involved to organize this activity.
Community
days:
Westmoreland
Heritage Trail has chosen its trail day to one location which is Trafford
Borough at the BY Park. Any suggestions, feedback, or input is welcomed to
create a successful start to an organized community event. For any type of
fundraising or licenses by a non-profit organization would need a 501C-3 form,
councilmembers will co-ordinate
with the TECDC members to see if their charter is still active and ask if we
can pair with them for fundraising. Councilmember Perovich volunteered to reach
out to some members of the TECDC, the borough manager
will reach out to Karen Cercone for a meeting.
It was
suggested in the meeting to start a drive-thru type fundraising examples like a
50/50 or some other type of raffle to raise funds for activities. It would be
something that can be done in a parking lot, and it could be partnered with
movies in the park and community days.
There was
an inquiry about a liaison for the Heritage Trail, although someone has been
appointed to the position it was mentioned there is no issue having an alternate
person. There will be a motion made at the next meeting to appoint Jeff
Contillo as a WHT representative.
