COVID-19: Update from the Borough of Trafford
IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO COVID-19 AND DEVELOP FEVER AND SYMPTOMS, SUCH AS COUGH AND DIFFICULTY BREATHING, CALL YOUR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER FOR MEDICAL SERVICE. AVOID GOING TO MEDICAL FACILITIES SUCH AS THE EMERGENCY ROOM, MED EXPRESS, OR THE DOCTORS OFFICE.
The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.
Statement from Trafford Borough’s Council President, Kris Cardiff:
With so many news sources available to us these days, it can become overwhelming and confusing regarding COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus. Trafford Borough’s first priority is the safety of our community and we want to provide as much relevant information to our community, friends, businesses, neighbors, and fellow residents.
Unfortunately, this virus is the real deal, highly contagious, and potentially life threatening to everyone, especially the elderly and those that are immunocompromised.
Trafford has always been a close-knit family and tonight, I am asking that we work together to minimize the coronavirus threat to our community by remaining calm, follow CDC guidelines, and think of others first by taking precautions such as washing our hands often, use hand sanitizer when possible, and avoiding direct contact with as many folks as possible.
As we always have as a community, together, we will persevere. God bless.
Information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and how it affects the Trafford Borough Community:
- Yesterday afternoon, Mayor Ed Llewellyn and Council President Kris Cardiff signed a Declaration of Disaster Emergency. What does this mean? This enables the Borough’s Emergency Management Coordinator to have access to state and federal funding in the case there is an emergency situation in the borough pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. - The following Trafford community activities have been postponed or cancelled at this time:
- March 21st Trafford Night at the Races (rescheduled for summer – more details to follow).
- March Trafford Crime Watch Meeting
- April 4th Rec Board Easter Egg Hunt
- March 30th Recreation Board Meeting
- Today, the Governor Tom Wolf, has ordered all non essential businesses to shut down at midnight tonight to help curb the spread of coronavirus. What does this mean? Non essential businesses have been defined by the Governor as:
- community and recreation centers
- gyms, including yoga, barre and spin facilities
- hair salons, nail salons and spas
- casinos
- concert venues
- theaters
- bars
- sporting event venues and golf courses
- retail facilities, including shopping malls
- non essential government offices
- Businesses that will remain open have been defined as the following:
- Pharmacies or other health care facilities
- Grocery Stores
- Trash Collection
- Restaurants offering take-out ONLY
- Gas Stations
- What does this mean for Trafford Borough?
- The borough administrative office will be closed to the public but will continue to operate on a limited basis.
- The Trafford Police Department will continue to operate as normal. ALWAYS dial 911 for emergencies.
- All activities scheduled for the Manchester Room for the rest of this month have been rescheduled.
- Public works will be available to respond to emergency calls only.
- Jim Kerrigan, Borough Tax Collector’s Office will be closed for the next two weeks.
- Tips on what you can do during this emergency situation:
- Social Distancing. What does this mean?
- Avoid gathering in groups at this time. This includes church services, community meetings, and children’s group activities (play dates, birthday parties, etc.). Consider utilizing email and conference calls to avoid exposure to one another.
- Continue to check on your elderly and ill neighbors but via telephone. We all want to be good neighbors but having direct contact may be more harmful than helpful.
- Governor Wolf has stated: “If you need to go to the pharmacy, go to the pharmacy,” Wolf said. “But don’t stop at several other stores or places on the way in and make contact with a dozen other people.”

Trafford Borough understandS that this is a surreal and confusing time but we ask our community to remain vigilant by taking the necessary precautions to keep each other healthy and safe. And remember that if you have an emergency, ALWAYS dial 911.
